Poplars

Lesvos, 1997, Gulf of Yeras (Lesvos Island, Greece). A father waits at the port to pick up his two small children while smoking a cigarette. From the opposite shore, their mother helps them board the small boat. When the children arrive, they are older than when their journey began. They greet their father and board the car, which will drive them to an olive grove. There, three tall poplars with different heights rise, symbolizing the three heroes. They immediately engage in agricultural work. The trees and the children grow rapidly each time the father smokes or reminisces. Suddenly, he realizes that time has passed quickly, seeing his children have grown significantly. Confused by what is real and what is a memory falls into a golden crater opened in the ground by the rapid tall trees, and becomes one with the great poplar. Years later, the sons return to the field. They climb the big tree. A breeze shakes the branches, and the large leaves embrace the children.
